“So this is where you are.” The man glares at us. “Let’s go. Your parents are waiting, and they’re angry. And I’m tired of hanging around here.” He shakes. “So pedestrian.”

“I’m not going with you.” Gail’s voice is strong as he steps in front of me. The man in front of me now is quite different from the one I saw a few hours ago.

“You are. I don’t care how, but you are coming with me. I’m not letting this trip here lead to nothing.” He grabs at Gail, but he slaps Danny’s hands away.

“Tough luck for you. But I’m not coming. You can tell my parents yourself.” Gail grabs at me and pulls me past Danny, on the way to the pit.

From here, I can already see Lucien walking up to us, obviously not entirely sure what is going on.

Danny grabs for him again, but before he can do anything, I take his arm and twist it behind his back.

“You’re going to go and Gail is not coming with you. I think he made that pretty clear.” I hold him until he stops struggling.

“Let me go.” Danny’s voice is low and I can feel the power he emits, but somehow it doesn’t influence me as much as it should.

“Only if you leave.” I’m not letting anything happen to Gail. I know we messed up, but I know that letting him meet up with his parents again is only going to make everything worse.

“Fine. I don’t get why I keep getting dragged into all this. Dragon babies are so not worth this trouble.” He shakes his head. “Watch out for your parents, though. They’re not happy and will do everything to get you properly mated. They don’t care anymore. They will do anything. And I think they should have done that sooner.”

I let the man go.

“They should have started by raising you right. They did a piss poor job of it. What parent lets their Omega go off to college so far away and lets them take medication until such a late age?” He frowns as he lets out a sound that might be interpreted as a laugh. “Honestly, I don’t even know if you can have kids with your body this full of crap.” He turns away. “Run away, little dragon. They will come and get you. And I’ll be happy if they finally discipline you the way they should have done years ago.” Danny walks away, his hands in his pockets, his head up high.

He passes Lucien, who only glares at him. Then Lucien rushes over to us, wrapping his arms around us both.

“You safe? You okay?” He looks at us both, keeping holding on.

“We’re fine.” I smile as I wrap my arm around him. “Just a little scare. No problems. The more important thing is, you won!”

Gail’s breath next to me evens out and he breaks out in a smile too.

“I did it. Told you that we would have something to celebrate tonight.” Lucien grins.

It’s good to see him this excited.
